Forum 2008 kicks off with a panel discussion featuring leaders of the College Board's member-led, member-driven commissions and task forces. Author and essayist Richard Rodriguez will serve as moderator.

Representatives from the College Board’s Commission on Access, Admissions and Success in Higher Education; the Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century; the Rethinking Student Aid study group; and the CollegeKeys Compact™ will discuss policies and practices that increase college access and success for all students.

Panelists include:

  • Sandy Baum, senior policy analyst, The College Board, and professor of economics, Skidmore College;
  • Steve Brooks, executive director, North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority;
  • Youlonda Copeland-Morgan, vice chair, Board of Trustees, The College Board, and associate vice president of enrollment management, Syracuse University;
  • William Kirwan, chancellor, University System of Maryland;
  • Jerry Lucido, vice provost for enrollment policy and management, University of Southern California;
  • Michael McPherson, president, The Spencer Foundation; and
  • Lester Monts, chair, Board of Trustees, The College Board, and senior vice provost for Academic Affairs, University of Michigan.

In a Forum session on Thursday, Nov. 6, the Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century will present its new report, which includes a declaration of values as well as a series of recommendations. The task force has worked throughout the year to identify and understand the issues that affect the process of transition from secondary school to college. Concerns about complexity of the admissions process, loss of control of communications, lack of professional development and unequal access to higher education have formed the core of its work. Jerry Lucido, task force chair and vice provost for enrollment policy and management at the University of Southern California, will lead the session along with key members of the group.
