SpringBoard® Community Online Is New Tool for Teachers

SpringBoard® has recently launched a community Web site for teachers, administrators, trainers and other educators. This user-friendly, peer-to-peer network was created in response to a survey of SpringBoard members in which many respondents stated that they would like to have a means to network between districts. All content is supplied by SpringBoard educators and organized intuitively to enable users to easily find the information they are seeking — from general blogs about the use of whiteboards in the classroom, to intricate discussions about a specific course, to supplemental materials that relate to the themes of SpringBoard.

Pam Nelson, vice president and general manager for SpringBoard, stresses that “the real credit for this site goes to the SpringBoard teachers and administrators who asked for a place to share tips, ideas and even documents so that other districts wouldn't have to `recreate the wheel.’  We are thrilled with the early response by SpringBoard educators who actively blog, participate in threaded discussion, share best practices and provide feedback on the revision postings. This is truly a peer-to-peer professional learning community where walls and state lines are no longer barriers to a national dialogue on issues that SpringBoard educators deal with on a daily basis.”

The site, which launched last month, is not a public forum, but a SpringBoard members-only space that is linked to a member’s SpringBoard online account. The result is an online community in which educators can meet and hold discussions on topics of common interest, blog about their favorite topics or share documents. This online community and the dynamic content found within has already become a valuable resource for its users, as SpringBoard posts its newsletters or reports, and users post research or teaching materials and strategies. The more users explore and contribute to the site, the richer and more wide-ranging the content will become. According to postings from the site, the community is getting strong positive reports.

Robbie Preefer, a SpringBoard specialist-coordinator in Palm Beach (Fla.) County Schools, wrote in to say, “The new Web site is fabulous. I can’t wait to share it with the teachers. The teachers have needed a place for communication. I love the sharing of additional books to consider and the sharing of classroom management ideas.”

Scott Doolittle, a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, posted the following: “As I was reading responses to Question 3, I recognized one of my colleagues, Darren. I clicked on his link and glanced at some of his postings. I found the setup to be very user-friendly. I will also return to Darren's postings for a closer look. I see some great potential for staying connected to colleagues in my district, as well as others.”

SpringBoard is a unique, comprehensive program that enables students to build the skills and understanding they need for success in AP® courses and college-level work. This powerful program provides rigorous English and mathematics lessons for students in grades six through 12.
