Advocacy Upcoming Access & Diversity Collaborative SeminarsThe Access & Diversity Collaborative was created by the College Board — in the wake of the University of Michigan U.S. Supreme Court decisions — to assist colleges and universities in developing and implementing their diversity-related policies in light of core institutional goals and federal nondiscrimination law. The collaborative provides extensive training to higher education institutions nationwide — conducting 24 national seminars for more than 1,200 representatives from 350 institutions and organizations in just three years, and publishing numerous guides that address key strategic planning and policy development issues in light of federal law. This training is particularly beneficial for enrollment management (admissions, financial aid, and outreach and recruitment) and student services, institutional leadership (provosts, deans, legal counsel, president's office staff), diversity officers, and institutional advancement, development, planning and communications. This year's Access & Diversity Collaborative national seminars will offer participants two choices: “Knowing the Basics,” a fundamental series on federal law and its impact on institutional mission and diversity enrollment goals, and “Leading Institutional Change,” an advanced series focusing on issues of mission alignment, policy review and development, communication and consensus building to achieve diversity enrollment goals in the context of current federal and state laws. This advanced seminar extends into a fifth year the Access & Diversity Collaborative’s record of providing practical and immediately useful information to college and university personnel on how to effect change on campus to achieve mission-driven enrollment goals.
