A Note from New England Region VP Mike Bartini

Mike Bartini

The New England Regional Office continues to be busy this spring as we prepare for the end of the academic year and for next year’s events and programs. Over the past few weeks, several of NERO’s regional committees have convened. The region’s Academic Division and Financial Aid Division advisory committees met to discuss issues that are central to education. The New England Regional Council will soon meet to discuss this fall’s call for nominations and the upcoming Greenhouse Grant, among other topics of importance to our members and our region.

In addition, the 2010 Regional Forum Program Planning Committee’s meetings in April and May have kicked off what promises to be a great program for February 2010. Committee members continue to discuss topics of importance to New England educators related to guidance and admissions, financial aid, community colleges, K-12, higher education and the P-16 continuum. The Program Planning Committee welcomes additional input; you are encouraged to submit your own session proposal and join the conversation for next year’s meeting. Additional information can be found at www.collegeboard.com/neforum, which will be regularly updated with details about the 2010 New England Regional Forum.

We appreciate and encourage your participation at College Board events and programs, and look forward to our continued work together at the end of this academic year and beyond.

New England Regional Office to Host Summer
Institutes for Financial Aid, Admissions and
Guidance Professionals

Each year the New England Regional Office holds two summer institutes for college administrators and guidance professionals. The 41st Annual Institute on Financial Aid Administration will be held in Danvers, Mass., from July 20-24. This five-day institute offers the opportunity to learn the basics of higher education financial aid in an interactive environment. Special attention is given to the needs and concerns of attendees who may be working in community colleges, public or independent institutions, and agencies. Resident faculty members include Sally Donahue, director of financial aid and senior admissions officer at Harvard University; Gail Holt, senior associate director of student financial aid at Mount Holyoke College; and David J. Welsh, director of financial aid services at Tunxis Community College. For more information, click here.

Now in its 49th year, the annual Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions is a program organized jointly by Harvard University and the College Board. Held at Harvard University from June 21–26, the institute offers more than 40 sessions for admissions professionals and school counselors, offering ideas and information on procedures for recruiting and decision-making decision making and for helping students make enlightened choices.
