2nd Edition of Community College Counselor Sourcebook Available

The College Board has just released the second edition of its Community College Counselor Sourcebook, which provides student service professionals with strategies, tips and other resources to serve
community college students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university and complete their baccalaureate degree.

The second edition of the Sourcebook is a complete revision of the original and includes two new chapters: “Advising First-Generation Students,” which addresses the unique needs of students who are first in their
family to attend college; and “Assessment and Placement: Getting Students Started Right,” which focuses on a student’s first year at a community college and the critical role of assessment in preparing students for a successful college career.

The Sourcebook fills nearly 300 pages with useful information to help students prepare academically for transfer; navigate course articulation issues; research, select and apply to transfer institutions; and assist in applying for financial aid. It also includes more than two dozen handouts for students, their families
or colleagues.

The College Board’s National Office of Community College Initiatives relied on advice supplied by experienced community college counselors, transfer center directors and other student service professionals in order to include the latest research on programs and best practices that effectively serve community college students. Available in a print version bound by a three-ring binder ($46) or as a downloadable PDF ($28), the Sourcebook is an essential resource to help prepare community college students for transfer to a four-year college
or university.

With the Sourcebook in hand, you'll save valuable hours of research and have more time to spend one-on-one with your students, helping them advance to a four-year institution and a baccalaureate degree.
