Barely able to catch her breath from winning Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year, Amy Sichel got more good news: She was also named one of the 10 (out of more than 600) 2010 Tech-Savvy Superintendents from eSchool News, a national monthly publication specializing in educational technology. Sichel is the superintendent for Pennsylvania’s Abington School District.

In his nomination, Abington School Board President Raymond McGarry said, “[Sichel] has led the staff to strive for and reach new levels of passion as educators. She has instilled excellence as our goal and student achievement as the result … while managing a $120 million organization. Additionally, Dr. Sichel is an excellent role model to demonstrate what a superintendent can aspire to be, to achieve and to model for others.”

To be named Pennsylvania’s Superintendent of the Year, Sichel was the top choice this year among superintendents from 500 school districts who are members of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators. The title pays tribute to the talent and vision of the superintendents who lead the nation's public schools. Sichel will be honored for this award at the American Association of School Administrators conference in Phoenix next month, and the 10th Annual Tech-Savvy Superintendents Awards Program will recognize its national winners in a private ceremony at the same conference.

The Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards Program honors K–12 educators who have displayed exemplary vision in the use of technology to further the goals of educating today’s students and equipping them with 21st-century skills.
