In June, the College Board's CollegeEd® program won the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association for Educational Publishers (AEP) in the "Life Skills and Character Education" category for its middle school curriculum.

The College Board community as a whole congratulates the CollegeEd program on this achievement.

"This curriculum enables students to focus more on their interests, skills and passion," said Lauren Reynolds, assistant director of CollegeEd and Guidance Publications. "Students consider the value of education and how academic planning can align with their interests, skills and talents. They concentrate on the transition into high school and on connecting academic skills, college choices and career exploration."

CollegeEd's curriculum is designed for middle and high school students. The program provides information, inspiration and guidance designed to help students develop their capacity to succeed in college and in life. CollegeEd cultivates a culture of college readiness and high expectations for all students, especially those who are first generation, low income or historically underserved. The award-winning middle school curriculum prepares students for high school, and the high school curriculum prepares students for college readiness and success.

"CollegeEd has helped increase the college-going culture in our school, especially for our traditionally underserved students from low-income families who never thought that college was a possibility," said Janice Park, director of the Student Success Center at University City High School Promise Academy.

There are three consistent themes to the CollegeEd program: Who am I? Where am I going? and How do I get there? "Who am I?" serves to help students define their own roads in life. "Where am I going?" serves to build skills for the future and inform students about high school and developing good habits. "How do I get there?" serves to help students stay organized, become knowledgeable about the continuing support available to them, learn about college choices as well as college planning, prepare for high school, and meet their goals.

"CollegeEd provides students with the academic and decision-making tools to plan wisely in order to prepare for college readiness and workforce readiness in a globally competitive world," said Joe A. Hairston, superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools.

AEP serves the needs of the K–12 educational resource community, encouraging and advocating for professional, high-quality content for education.

For more than four decades, the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning. One of the largest and longest-running awards programs for educational products, the AEP Awards aim to:

  • identify products that exemplify the highest standards of professional, high-quality educational content;
  • give credit and recognition to the organizations that are leading the way in this field; and
  • set benchmarks to which the rest of the industry can aspire.
