K-12 and Higher Ed Partnerships Recognized
The College Board’s Midwestern Regional Office recognized three educational institutions for their collaborative efforts to prepare students for college success. In keeping with the College Board’s mission, the Partnership Award honors outstanding collaboration across K-12 schools or systems,
two-year colleges and four-year colleges and universities.
The first recipients of the award are the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the Council Bluffs Community School District and Iowa Western Community College. Representatives of each were honored at the annual Midwestern Regional Forum in Chicago in February.
“The College Board recognized the outstanding partnership of UNO, Iowa Western Community College and the Council Bluffs school district to connect more students to college success
and opportunity later in life,” said Kris Zavoli, senior director
of state government relations and regional membership for
the College Board.
UNO, IWCC and the Council Bluffs Community School District have worked together to invite elementary students to tour college campuses, provide AP® training for high school teachers and provide library and technology access and support
for students.
“This partnership offers students access, academic rigor and ongoing opportunities for success,” said Rosalie Saltzman, a member of the College Board Midwestern Regional Council
and director of the UNO Honors Program.
In conjunction with next year’s regional forums, all six of the College Board’s regional offices are requesting proposals for a Partnership Award. Partnerships would include representatives from K-12 schools or districts, two-year colleges and four-year colleges and universities. The program should be at least two years old. The College Board will pay for a representative from each institution in a winning partnership to attend the regional forum. Recipients will share their stories of opportunity, challenge and success in forming and implementing such a partnership at a forum session.
